The most common examples of folk architecture date from the period at the turn from the 19th to the 20th century. It was the time of the development of industry and mass departure to the cities in order to work, increased transmission of influence on building in villages and use of industrial materials, and the changes of residential culture.

The best masters of folk architecture were travelling builders “pečalbari” coming from passive regions, with their specialized master groups, such as Crnotravci from Vlasina, after whom all the builders from south and southeast Serbia were called.

National building, as part of cultural heritage, enriches the human spirit and teaches about the past.
